Description of the Project
The Sisters of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus have spent their lives in the midst of the people of Burundi and have taken care of the education of young people especially in less developed parts of the country.
In 2006-2007, the order contributed to the opening of nine classes, three nursery and six primary grades, in the region of Bubanza, an area deeply affected by the consequences of civil war.
This school year, 2012-2013, twelve classes will be made available to children who start secondary school. However, these classes will not meet the demand as the call for education, fortunately, is growing but the means remain insufficient.
Parents, and the children themselves, have realized that without an assiduous education, there is no place for them in modern society.
For this reason the sisters are even more committed to complete this project of human, intellectual, cultural and religious education.
The expansion of the Bubanza School will reach from primary to secondary. This will allow the children to remain in their homes because now, to continue their studies, they must move to other provinces, leaving their parents. To help in the formation of their students the Sisters also want to develop a sports program.
